Pastors must be masters at observing and recognizing these moments of grace and drawing their flock’s attention to them.
When Jesus is given His rightful spot as Head of the local church, pastors can begin and should begin to shepherd the congregation in prayer, the vital connection to the Head.
We often forget that before we can reach a lost and dying world, we need to pray! In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus tells us that we need to pray to the Lord of the Harvest. Prayer is where evangelism begins.
Prayers for the needs of the outer man can dominate our prayer requests. While these prayers are important, above these we have to pray for the needs of the inner man, especially in times of great trial.
The Bible says that Christ is the Head of the church and the church is His body. What keeps the body connected to the Head? Prayer.
Jesus is the life and the hope of the church. When we submit to His active headship, His life flows through us. When we pray together then, we must pray together as one under Christ our Head.
Jesus makes some remarkable statements and promises to the believers who abide in Him in John 15. When we make our home in Jesus, we are sure to receive what we need when we need it, including what’s needed to pray.
We don’t like to talk about dying to self (much less actually die to self), but it’s one thing we have to do in order come before God and make our requests known.
